This invitation was for a group of friends who all have children born within a few days or weeks apart from Calvin. As first-time parents, we would often get together throughout the year. A bit irreverent, this comic encapsulates the general feeling after the first year: relief, mostly, that everyone survived. Our late cat, Trout, routinely made absurd appearances in comics I drew from the time I was 23.
